4th Annual Central Vermont Employment Summit
Schedule for June 22

Rutland, Vermont-- The 4th Annual Central Vermont Employment Summit, presented by Ryan Smith & Carbine, Ltd. in association with the Greater Rutland Area Personnel Executives is scheduled for June 22 at the Holiday Inn in Rutland, Vermont beginning at 8am.

This half-day seminar is designed for business owners, managers, human resources professionals, corporate counsel, safety managers and other business professionals who are faced with increasing employment and workers' compensation issues. This year's presentation will begin with an update of employment and workers' compensation law. This years' topics include the practical - such as the role of the HR Department with handling worker compensation claims and a review of ongoing issues with documentation in the work place; and the complicated - spending extended time on the interplay between the ADA and worker compensation requirements with a role playing introduction to illustrate these difficult issues. A segment of the seminar will offer attendees the opportunity to ask questions about and share with the group problems and concerns they face within their workplace.

The seminar will be led by attorneys Andrew H. Maass and John W. Valente. Mr Maass' practice focuses on issues affecting employment and labor law including mediation, arbitration (civil claims and labor issues), fact finding, contract and collective bargaining negotiation, state and federal administrative hearings and investigations and civil litigation. Mr. Maass offers counsel to a number of Vermont's larger employers, and is on the list of approved trainers for the Civil Rights Unit of the Vermont Attorney General's Office. He received his B.A. degree from St. Lawrence University and his J.D. degree from New England School of Law. Mr. Valente's practice is focused in the areas of workers' compensation, employment-related issues, education law and civil litigation. A graduate of Boston College and Suffolk University School of Law, he is a frequent lecturer and trainer on workers' compensation issues for local, regional and national organizations and companies.

This seminar is free of charge to Ryan Smith & Carbine, Ltd. clients and friends, as well as members of the Greater Rutland Area Personnel Executives or SHRM, who have an active portion of their work devoted to employment or workers' compensation issues. Breakfast is served at 8am and the seminar begins promptlyat 8:30 and will finish by noon.
